Thing #1 and Thing #1: Pancreatic Cancer and Ice Cream... not in that order

There's so much going on around me, but I'm missing it all because I'm in the writing cave. So how about a quick Thing #1 and Thing #1?

Thing #1

My sister-in-law brought me over a big tub of homemade ice cream to thank us for helping them when their basement flooded while they were out of town.

Of three things I am certain:

1. I love homemade ice cream.

2. There's a part of me, and I'm not sure how dominant that part might be, that longs to start another flood just to get more ice cream.

3. I am unconditionally, and irrevocably, going to break into their house tonight.

Thing #1

My dad's latest scans show his tumors are still shrinking. (Most of you know he is battling Pancreatic Cancer).
The Fam at the Huntsman Cancer Center
The doctors are pretty baffled. At his most recent visit, they said he is in the "Top 5% of chemo responders."

1. I don't know why we are the recipients of these little miracles, but I will take them!

2. And then I will ask for more...

So, what are the Things #1 in your life?

Did you notice how I pluralized Thing #1?

  1. Yay Brodi's dad!!!
    Yay homemade ice cream!!

Yay Brodi in the writing cave writing E2!!!!!!

  2. Robin- Yay!!!

And Yay!! to you for querying!!

  3. First, yay for your dad! That's awesome! :) Here's to more miracles to come!

Second, ha ha! I love your ice cream spoof of Twilight. I think it's much better. And, homemade ice cream is the best!

  4. Jenni- I asked Sam if he "got" the Twilight reference, and he's all, "What Twilight reference?"

    And then I remembered: he's a boy.

  5. Oh my goodness, doing such a happy dance for you!!! (And your rockstar dad! And that incredible ice cream!)

I do have two Things #1, actually!
Thing 1.1 is my new WiP. It's about misfit superhero kids and I am in love. Utterly and completely. It's a good feeling.

Thing 1.2 is a secret. But it is awesome.

  6. Leigh Ann- Here's to your secret awesome project! And your new WIP.

  7. So happy for your dad Brodi!! YAY!

I guess my thing is that my own Thing #1 and Thing #2 start school in less than a week. :) And as a bonus, Thing #2 starts first grade.

  8. Great little hat tip to Twilight there.

That is wonderful news about your Dad. Pancreatic cancer is a scary one so it's super awesome amazing that he's doing so well!

Good luck to you in the writing cave.

  9. Paula- Oh man, my Thing #2 is only in Kindergarten. It will be a long year.

    Emily- Thanks so much!

  10. Hahaha! Loved the Twilight reference. Homemade ice cream.... What tops homemade ice cream? I'm sure there's something, but I just can't figure out what it is right now. :D

YAY FOR YOUR DAD! That truly is amazing and wonderful news. Let him know that he has a whole virtual fan base that is cheering him on!! Keep us posted. :) He can kick this thing yet!

    Let's's a Thing #1 for you....

You know my Chimichanga MS? Well, it is almost finished!! I'll be able to start revisions on it within the next few weeks. *celebrate* :)

    Good luck finishing up E2!

  11. Kristin- What tops homemade ice cream? Fresh raspberries, of course! And hot fudge...

Congrats on your ms. That is seriously quite the accomplishment.

Now if I could do the same...

  12. That's awesome news Brod. We take every gift with open hands, don't we? xo

  13. So glad to hear about how things are going with your father, Brodi. Our prayers are with you and your fam.

  14. Cath- I open my apron and catch every little miracle I can!

    Donna- Thanks so much. :)

  15. Glad to hear about your dad. My mom has Alzheimer's so I know how AMAZING good days can be. And the Twilight reference cracked me up. I've been in the writing cave too, so this post was a nice treat :)
