Can you Name That Literary Character? And Win an ARC of EVERNEATH!

So many things to get to today!

1. First off, my sis-in-law is giving away an ARC of EVERNEATH on her blog. The rules to enter are pretty easy and straightforward, so give it a go by clicking here.

2. Second, the winner of the signed copy of BACK WHEN YOU WERE EASIER TO LOVE and an EVERNEATH guitar pick necklace is...

ANGEL SNYDER!

Please email me with your mailing address. My email is brodiashton at gmail dot com.

Thanks for everyone who entered, and participated in the Facebook trivia contest. I mailed out like 24 necklaces over the weekend. :)

3. NAME THAT LITERARY CHARACTER

I went to a blogger/writer social on Friday night (hosted by Mary Campbell) and we played a game where you stick the name of a literary figure on your forehead and you have to ask questions to figure out who you got.

I figured out the literary figure on my forehead in three simple questions. See if you can guess as well:

Question 1: "Is it a male or female?"
answer: "Male."

Question 2: "Is he hot?"
answer: "Yes. Way hot."

Question 3: "Is he supernatural or just plain human?"
answer: "Plain human."

Can you guess the literary character? (Don't scroll down if you want to try.)

Okay, so the answer was Fitzwilliam Darcy. Did anyone get it right? It was simple, really. All you have to know is "hot" and "not immortal".

4. It was my birthday yesterday.

Check out the gift my mom gave me:

Because nothing says "Happy thirty-somethingth Birthday!" like Katy Perry nail polish. I love my mom, and I'm grateful for the gift, but I just want to know the thought process behind it.

Was it: Hey! Brodi loves glitter! This looks perfect.

Or: Hey! Brodi wanted to be a Firecracker for Halloween one year!

or: Hey! Brodi has nails.

She also got me this sun hat:

I can only assume that in her mind, I'm either turning 12 or 80.

It's okay for me to say this. My mom doesn't read my blog. Don't tell her, okay?

I painted my nails:

For the record, the bottom coat is "Teenage Dream" and the top coat is "The One That Got Away."

So, what's everyone up to? I should be getting my "EVERNEATH 2: It's Everneath-ier" revision letter on Friday, so I'm trying to enjoy my last moments of freedom.

  1. Well, happy belated birthday to you! I'm pretty jealous of your nailpolish. I really want to get that Katy Perry set, but the responsible part of me keeps saying "what do you need MORE nailpolish for?!" So until then... sigh. No Katy Perry polish for me. Enjoy thoug! It's super pretty.

And good luck with that letter! Hope it goes well :)

  2. Yes, Mr. Darcy is way too easy! Who else can compete against him?

  3. haha, i totally guessed correctly.

  4. AHAHAHAHAHAHA I totally guessed it! How could it even BE anyone else?

New follower (even though I love you on Twitter already ;) )

  5. Happy birthday Brodi!!!!! And many Mr. Darcys to you as well! he really is the best:) My mom only shops at all a dollar so we always get awesome gifts too.

  6. my mom would've just given me the sunhat. and some anti-aging cream, so be glad you got the nail polish instead.

  7. So everyone guessed Darcy? That means we need more hot human boys. I happen to have one in my book... Just sayin'.

Brenna- you can never have enough nail polish.

Andrea- I totally do all my shopping there too.

    Windy- haha. Anti-aging cream. :)

  8. Ha ha - I didn't realize that was all it took to guess him. It was way to easy. I like the glitter nail polish and I've been meaning to get a big hat like that. Sounds like a fun birthday. I meant to wish you happy birthday yesterday, but I didn't. So, happy belated birthday today.

  9. Happy Birthday, Brodi!

Sadly, I did not guess Darcy, even though I'm now reading P&P on my new droid phone. What about Etienne St.Clair? Jack?!! There's just too many hot guys in literature.

Um... wait! Did I just say that? Ignore me. I' m obviously delirious.

  10. I'm laughing my head off right now because the first name that popped into my head a split second after reading your questions was "Mr. Darcy". Ha! Nice! :)

  11. And: 'Bahaha!' about the nail polish and the granny hat :D

  12. I'm a relatively new follower and I love reading your fun posts!

  13. Happy Birthday!! I love the glittery nails :)

  14. Happy Birthday! That's awesome that you figured out Mr. Darcy with only those three questions. Sadly, I'm not sure I would have ever gotten it.

Maybe the nail polish is meant to decorate the hat?

  15. I didn't guess Mr. Darcy. I should've, though. :)

I think the nail polish and the sun hat go well together! Now, you just need a night out on the town, or a day out on the beach, or something.

  16. PS--Happy Birthday! I thought I got it in my comment, but I didn't, lol.

  17. I'm so wrapped up in immortal figures that Darcy didn't get a chance to enter my mind. Once I saw the guy was hot, all I could think was Alcide from True Blood (Sorry!)

Happy B-day and love the gifts. Now you can chillax outside with your hat and blind passersby with the sun' rays reflecting off our (super-cute) fingernails :-)

  18. Oops, I almost said Mr. Knightley, but I meant Darcy!

Thanks for the shout out for the contest--you rock!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Happy birthday! Of course I guessed Mr. Darcy--who else? Love the game idea!

  20. I totally guessed Mr. Darcy! Love that.
I love your mom's gifts. I'm thinking that since her scarf made it in to your author picture for Everneath, that we can expect to see you in a sunhat on the back of Everneath 2. Right? :)

  21. Yeah, I totally didn't guess right. Love the nail polish, especially the names. That's my favorite part of nail polish.

  22. Oh my goodness that whole post was so great!
I LOVE the nail polish and hat! Because, lets face it, Brodi has nails and a head.
That game sounds fun but the main reason I clicked on your post was because the thumbnail of Colin Firth on my sidebar. So I kinda cheated. I guess I didn't have to confess that but...I don't know how to delete... ;)

  23. Happy belated Birthday!! Your Mom is a character :)

  24. "I'm grateful for the gift, but I just want to know the thought process behind it."

I totally get this and why I like gift certificates. Can't go wrong there unless it's to Home Depot. Hubby would like me to give him one of those. One year he gave me Legos.

  25. Hahaha, that's hilarious - I immediately thought, "Mr. Darcy." Well done on good questions!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I guessed Darcy, and I'm a guy. Is that weird? I'm pretty sure it is, but I suppose it's even more weird that I'm admitting it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Dude...I have to say. I'm officially finished now and Jack gives Darcy some serious competition. *sigh*

Also, can you have your mom call my mom? My birthday is coming up and I'm pretty sure your mom is on to something.

    P.S. Happy Birthday!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. the sparkles on your nails scream '14'....maybe your mom is just trying to keep you young at heart?

or on your nails? i think grace and eliza coveting that nail set!! (ha ha)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Robin- Why didn't I think of Etienne?

    Angela- Oooohh, Alcide. Yum.

Donna- Legos? Seriously? That's kind of... awesome. I have to admit I'm a closet Lego-lover.

Jenn- My mom will totally call your mom. And I'm glad you finished. :)

  30. I put the hat I got from Mom for my birthday with all the other ones she has given me from previous birthdays :). And they are right next to the black towels we got for Christmas that one year...I guess she's getting me back for the back-scratcher I got Dad!

  31. Awe, happy birthday (yesterday)! That is some rocking nailpolish!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Happy belated birthday ! I am totally loving the nail polish <3

  33. *refrains from admitting Darcy never even crossed my mind*

Also, probably wise to not admit I've never read Pride and Prejudice. I have seen the movie though! The modern version, with that dude who's not Colin Firth.

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope you have an amazing year ahead - a super hot novel coming out sort of helps in making that a reality ;) And you totally have the hottest nails I've ever seen on an author.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love the Everneath cover and love the nails!

    Happy Birthday!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Happy belated birthday! The nails look awesome! And even if I've read and seen a movie I still didn't guess Mr. Darcy. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  36. But of course it was Mr. Darcy! Love your Mom's gifts. If you don't want the glitter polish, my girls would go gaga over it! ;) And I like the sun hat!

So how else can I get my hands on an ARC copy? How do I rig your contests?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was thinking of Darcy, but my mental image was of the newer one, from the movie with Kiera Knightly. And an ARC? I want! I'm so excited for your book. :] ~ Gabi
