Halloween Costumes, Lego Star Wars, and Where I'll be Next Weekend

Hey Y'all!

First off, some housekeeping. Wednesday's contest will close on Sunday at midnight. The winner will be chosen at random by random.org on Monday.

Second: I will be at the Vegas Valley Book Festival next weekend. Anyone else going to be there? I will be giving away 15 (FIFTEEN!) ARCs of EVERNEATH at the Paranormal Ball, along with some swag like guitar pick necklaces and such.

So, if you have not yet registered for the Paranormal Ball, you can sign up here.

And if you want more information about the incredible lineup at the Book Festival, you can check it out here.

My awesome sisters-in-law are possibly making the trip to Vegas to hang out with me at the ball. One of them was concerned about costumes.

sis-in-law #1: "What does one wear to a Paranormal Ball?"

Sis-in-law #2: "Well, something Paranormal."
#1: "Like Princess Leia? Should I dress as Princess Leia?"

#2: "Umm... she's not really a paranormal character."

#1: "Okay. How about... Lego Star Wars? Should I dress as Lego Star Wars?"

#2: "Again, not really paranormal. Think more along the lines of Buffy the Vampire Slayer?"

#1: "But, I don't look a thing like Buffy."
To be fair, though, she doesn't really look like Princess Leia either. Or Lego Star Wars. (Not quite sure how someone would resemble Lego Star Wars in the first place.)

I think it was possible that sis #1 was confusing "Paranormal" with "ComiCon".

So, if you would like to see me dressed as a surprise (surprise as in "I have no idea what I'm wearing yet!") and my sis-in-law dressed as an entire set of Lego Star Wars, come to the ball!

Thirdly, yesterday was the Halloween Parade.

Kid B went as Toad.
He's holding hands with his teacher, Miss Newman. He would be adopted by her if he could.

Kid C went as a Human Whoopie Cushion
Pull my finger.
Nine years ago, I worried that if we named him "Carter" people would call him "Carter the Farter".  Now, I'm dressing him up as a Whoopie Cushion.

He rocked that costume, by the way. He went up and down the aisles cheering and waving, as if he were Thor about to be crowned king, and not a giant pink tooter.

So, what's everyone doing this weekend? Any plans for Halloween?

  1. I love your Miss Newman's costume! It probably wouldn't have worked for either of your boys, but possibly you could figure out a way to make it fit for the paranormal ball, which sounds like a blast! I hope you have tons of fun!

We have a family Halloween party tomorrow and last week my sister-in-law decided to get married at the party. So I guess my plans are to go to a wedding. I still haven't decided what to wear, but the giant Whoopie Cushion is looking very appealing.

  2. Jenilyn- If I had Miss Newman's body, I'd totally go for her costume!

  3. Lego Stars Wars. *snorts* Way for Kid C to rock his costume! I imagine the Rocky theme playing in the background.

  4. Jenny- I should've followed him with a little stereo playing Eye of the Tiger! That would be awesome!

  7. Ha! I love the costumes. They're awesome!

I'm relaxing because I have a pinched nerve in my neck or shoulder and it has caused major pain this week. I just saw a chiropractor, though, and he is a miracle worker! I'm feeling tons better!

As far as Halloween is concerned, I'm still trying to decide whether to wear my vampire costumer or my brain slug one.

  8. OMG. If my 4 year old would have seen a Woopie Cushion costume, I would not have been able to get him anything else. Love it.

And, I wish I could see your sister being all the Lego Star Wars I would. That would be awesome.

  9. I may not understand the difference between paranormal and comicon and science fiction, but I know I look more like Princess Leia than I look like Olivia Dunham!

  10. Jenni- Sorry about the pinched nerve! And as for the costume, I vote for Brain Slug!!

Jenny- I will take lots of pictures!

Sis-in-law #1- Oh Yeah! I totally forgot we considered Olivia Dunham! And yes, I agree, you do look more like Princess Leia.

  11. Ugh. I suck at Halloween. Decorating, costumes. Bother. Good thing my boys are good at costuming themselves.

  14. Wow. Kid B's teacher is a looker! I think all my sons would have wanted to be adopted by her, too.

My 21-year-old son is sewing a Viking shirt as I write this. O_o

  15. Amie- Thanks so much! Wish I could say I made them. :)

Donna- Isn't she a total babe? I'm sure that's why Kid B loves Kindergarten!

  16. Wait, so . . . aren't your paranormal choices basically that you go as a vampire, a werewolf, or a dark angel in a prom dress? Haha, can't wait to see photos of what you come up with!

  17. Love the pics of the kiddos.

Chimpmunk originally wanted to be Darth Vader. Papa Bear wagged a finger at his chipmunk being a boyish character for Halloween, again (think Optimus Prime). So she was all too happy to be Cinderella. Then, just as Papa Bear was exiting stage right to purchase Cinderella's getup, Chipmunk did every female proud and changed her mind, again, grinning from ear to ear about being Princess and the frog.

Halloween evening will be spent at a little event our city is putting on in our small downtown.

Otherwise, this weekend has been spent getting ahead in my wine intake so I'll be semi-ready for NaNoWriMo to start on Tuesday. In vintage form, I've not made much progress in the way of outlining and in-depth character profiles. Sooo, this is going to be an interesting month.

  18. How did I miss the whoopie cushion??? I saw Toad. So cute - holding her hand... But missed Whoopie. Be sure to post pics of your cinderparanormal gown. And still waiting for my ARC copy... But I can't make it to Vegas. Bummer. xo
