Dark Divine Trailer, and Kid C's theories on the Afterlife

Happy Monday Before Christmas, Y'all!

I thought I'd be too busy trying to get ready for Christmas to blog, but then I remembered I don't cook, and I don't shop. I barely clean. I totally have time to blog!

1. Yesterday, Kid C gave me a glimpse of what he really believes about the afterlife:

Kid C: "Hey Brodi. When you die, and then when you come back, I'll be your father."

me: "Excuse me?"

Kid C: "When you die, and then when you come back, you'll be a little baby. So I'll be your dad. Right?"

me: "Um, no." (That's all I said, because I didn't even know how to begin to tell him all the things wrong with that sentence.)

Kid C: "Oh. Okay. Then, when you come back, will I be a teenager?"

me: (just to make things easier, and evade this teaching moment): "Yes."

2. Bree Despain's book The Dark Divine comes out tomorrow. Tomorrow! Check out this trailer for it:

3. So, it's December 21st. How are all y'all's Christmas Plans going? Or, if you don't believe, how is your:
-Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus?
-First Day of Winter?
-Humbug Day?
-Look at the Bright Side Day?
-National Flashlight Day?

Yep. These are all official holidays for December 21st. I wouldn't want to leave anyone out.

I love the evening of the 21st. That's when we gather our family, and hunt throughout our house for random flashlights, and then when it gets dark, we hunt around for the batteries. And then mother (in her kerchief) yells at father (in his cap) that he should've gotten stupid batteries at the stupid store. And then we light candles, and little Timmy mutters under his breath, "One day I'll be a teenager, and then I'm outta here."

It's beautiful, really.

  2. Wouldn't that be so cool if we really could come back as teenagers, and give our kids heart attacks? It's only fair, I think...

    And, Dorien... Sleep In!

  3. I'm really excited about Dark Diving coming out. I can't wait for it to be released tomorrow.

You know, Kid C may not be very far off with his beliefs. You never know. Look at Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. I know that doesn't really support his theory, but it's Star Wars and can be used for all situations in life!

Happy Christmahanukwanzaakahs! That's my standard greeting for this time of year. Those who believe in Festivus can just go jump in an ice cold lake and sink to the bottom. ;)

  6. Jenni- I totally remember the part in Star Wars where Darth Vader dies, and then comes back as Luke's baby.

Cam- You name the date, we'll be there. Sam will wear his bells. He's so excited.

    p.s. Get Writing!

  8. You're so funny! That flashlight thing totally cracked me up.

Of course, it's KILLING me that I have ONE MORE DAY until The Dark Divine because ever since I read that first free chapter online, it's only tortured me to death. One more day. Let's hope I make it.

  9. Are you asking where I went? I went to a little piece of hell called Barnwell South Carolina...I am back now so don't worry! Although, I have developed a bit of a backwoods accent.

Will you be over your New Years hang over by Sat the 2nd?

  10. L.T.- Did you know you can read the first four chapters of The Dark Divine on the Romantic Times website? Cut and paste this link:

    http://www.romantictimes.com/2009/11/dark-divine-sneak-peek.php

Maybe that will help you pass the time until tomorrow!

Cam- I think we could swing the 2nd. Let's do it!

  11. happy winter solstice to you, brodi.

my plans are: head south to warm weather, hang out with family, and eat tangerines for a week straight. i dream about that all year.

  12. Rachel- You mean, you're gonna leave this beef stew we call air? Wimp! Sorry, I'm just jealous that you will actually see the sun. I'm guessing Arizona doesn't' even know what an inversion is.

Sun, and The Dark Divine. Sounds like a good holiday.

  13. Oh how it pains me to be the one to let you know that Hannukah is over already this year! It's the thought that counts, right teen mom Brodi? Or is that mom-as-teen Brodi? LoL!!

  14. Sal- Hanukkah's over? Oh, man. How did that happen? Oh well. What I should've said is, "Hope you had a great Hanukkah. Past tense."

Thanks for the clarification. And if I ever had to relive my teenage years, that would be a separate sort of Hell. Off-topic, but just sayin'.

  15. Relive your teenage years, thank you NO WAY! I'm quite happy to put those years behind me.

  16. Una- Me too. That's why I write YA. I get to relive my teenage years the way I want, and forget about the embarrassment that they were.

  17. I KNEW you were clever, Brodi, this just proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt! =)

  18. If I could be a teenager again, and know what I know now, I'd do it again. I had a lot of fun as a teen, but also had a lot of drama. What am I talking about, I still have drama!
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and find the batteries in time to light the way for Santa to find his way to your house.

  19. Kimberly- I hate it when National Flashlight Day gets overshadowed by Christmas.

I like your reasoning about the teenage years. But if there weren't any drama, we wouldn't really be teenagers, right?

  20. As always, you are correct. My oldest just turned 13 and there have been more than a few "My life totally sucks!" moments already. Strap yourselves in, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

  21. This is the best blog post I've read all week. Thanks for making me laugh so hard! Favorite moments: "i totally have time to blog!" "what's wrong with Kid C's sentence" and "stupid batteries." Yes. It is beautiful. Love it Brod!

  22. Kimberly- How about when my kids reach the teenage years, we just send 'em to your house?

    Cath- Thanks, girlfriend.
    I love your posts too.
    For entirely different reasons.
    Poetry.

That was my best attempt at a poem. How was it?
